We are honored to present the 2024 National Civic Engagement Legend Honoree: Erika Alexander! This year’s theme, “Our Crowning Glory: A Celebration of Timeless Style and Resilience”, reflects our commitment to the beauty and power of Black culture and history. The event highlights the importance of celebrating natural Black hair and how it has been a symbol of identity and pride, especially in light of the CROWN Act (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair), which Arizona has proudly embraced. This legislation bans race-based hair discrimination, ensuring that individuals are not penalized in schools or workplaces for wearing their natural hairstyles, such as Afros, braids, and locs. Come and celebrate with us as we showcase the artistry and resilience of Black hair, style, and culture!
